Before “Black Girls Are Magic/Black Girl Magic” was a trending topic, before it was a cute
catchphrase to plaster on merchandise and long before it launched an intellectual property fight
over its ownership, it was an idea in the mind of a poor little Black girl who didn’t yet have the
words to describe the brilliance she saw emanating from the women in her family. Recounting
countless tales of fairies, witches and magicians, that little Black girl saw Black women as no
different. Indeed, by definition, Black Girls are actually, factually, and literally magic!

Since Black Girls Are Magic, it is time that this magic be honored, highlighted and celebrated, and
that is what we are here to do. This site was created to uplift and praise the accomplishments,
beauty, culture and amazing qualities of Black women. We seek to highlight and underscore the
phenomenal nature and skills that Black women and girls possess. “Black Girls Are Magic” is more
than a hashtag, or a slogan emblazoned on a t-shirt; it’s a declaration of the will, wonder and
power of Black women and girls of every hue across the globe. It’s also a reminder that you have
within you the power to make manifest anything you desire because you, Black Girl/Woman are
